Wix alternatives in 2026: which one suits your business?
Wix suits a lot of people, but not everyone. The main alternatives, who each one is for, and the newer option of building your site with your own AI.

Wix is one of the best-known website builders for good reason: pick a template, drag things around, publish. But people go looking for an alternative for a few common reasons. The site looks like a template. The editor takes longer than expected. Moving away later feels hard. Or they want something specific, like UK hosting, email on the same bill, or a site that follows their own design exactly.
Here are the main alternatives and who each one suits. Plans and prices change often, so check each company's own site before you decide.
The quick answer
| If you want... | Look at |
|---|---|
| A polished template with less fiddling | Squarespace |
| Full design control and you're a designer | Webflow or Framer |
| The biggest ecosystem of plugins | WordPress |
| Your own design or description built by AI, hosted in the UK | Prooflive.ai |
Squarespace
Squarespace is the closest like-for-like swap: a hosted builder with templates and an editor, known for clean, design-led layouts. It suits people who want something that looks good out of the box and don't mind working within a template's structure. It's still a template-and-editor tool, so if that's what you're trying to get away from, read on.
Webflow
Webflow gives designers fine control over layout and interactions through a visual designer, and adds a CMS for content. It's powerful, with a learning curve to match. A good fit if you, or your designer, want to build visually in detail. Webflow says it stores data in the US.
Framer
Framer started as a design tool and is now a popular way for designers to publish sites straight from a canvas, with templates and AI help. Great for designers who already think in Framer. Like Webflow, you're working in its editor and on its hosting.
WordPress
WordPress runs a huge share of the web, with themes and plugins for almost anything. The trade-off is upkeep: hosting, updates, security and plugins are yours to manage, or someone you pay. Good for people who want maximum flexibility and have help.

Building with your own AI agent
The newest alternative isn't another editor. You describe your business, point to your old website or give it a design, and an AI agent on your computer (Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Cursor and others) builds every page as real HTML. You change things by asking, in plain words.
That's how Prooflive.ai works. Your agent builds; Prooflive checks every page against Proofrails™, our own guard rails, so it doesn't come out looking AI-made, then hosts it in a London data centre with SSL, a leads inbox for enquiries, and search set up for you. Standard and up include a mailbox on your domain.
- Suits you if: you want a site that looks like your business, not a template, and you'd rather describe changes than learn an editor.
- Not for you if: you want to drag and drop everything yourself, or you don't want to use an AI agent.
Moving from Wix
Whatever you choose, the content is the part to bring with you: your words, photos, prices and the addresses of pages that get visits. With an AI agent, you can simply give it your Wix site's address and ask it to rebuild with the same content. See how to redesign your old website with AI, and add redirects for any page addresses that change so you keep your Google traffic.
