Free favicon generator
Make every icon a website needs from your logo, or from a letter in your brand font and colours: the favicon.ico, the PNG sizes, the Apple touch icon, the Android icons and the web manifest, with the HTML to paste into your page.
How to make a favicon
- Start from your logo or a letterUse just the symbol or monogram, not the whole logo with its name: at 16 px a wordmark becomes a smudge.
- Choose shape and backgroundA transparent icon on its own, or a square, rounded square or circle in your brand colour.
- Check the previewsSee it in a light and a dark browser tab and on a phone's home screen.
- Download and pasteUnzip the files into your site's root folder and paste the HTML into the head of every page.
Good to know
Which favicon files does a website need?
- favicon.ico (16, 32 and 48 px inside): still asked for by browsers, search engines and bookmark tools.
- favicon.svg: one sharp file for modern browsers, when you start from an SVG or a letter.
- apple-touch-icon.png (180 px): for iPhones and iPads, with a solid background because iOS fills transparency with black.
- android-chrome 192 and 512 px and site.webmanifest: for Android home screens and installable sites.
Favicons in Google results
Google shows your favicon next to your site in search results. It needs to be square, at least 48 x 48 px, at a stable address, and linked from the home page. A clear, high-contrast mark stands out among the results.
Light and dark tabs
Browser tabs can be white or near-black. A dark mark disappears on a dark tab; a white one on a light tab. A coloured background, or a mid-tone mark, works on both.
Questions
Is the favicon generator free?
Yes. No sign-up and no watermark, and you get every file in one zip.
What size should a favicon be?
Start from at least 512 x 512 px or an SVG. The tool makes the 16, 32, 48, 180, 192 and 512 px versions from it.
Do I still need a favicon.ico?
Yes. Modern browsers prefer the SVG or PNG, but browsers, search engines and other tools still ask for /favicon.ico, so it's worth having.
Why doesn't my favicon show in Google?
Google needs a square icon of at least 48 px linked from your home page, and it can take a few weeks to update. Check the link tags are in the page's head.
Where do I put the files?
In your site's root folder, so browsers find them at /favicon.ico, then paste the HTML into the head of every page. On Prooflive.ai you just upload one image and it's done.
